As an institution meeting the resource needs of a large and dynamic academic community, we acknowledge that our purchasing decisions have implications for the local economy and broader society.
Wentworth is embarking on a process to work with our suppliers to promote a common set of ethics and standards throughout the Institute’s supply chain, including environmental, social, and economic aspects of sustainability. Expectations for our suppliers are described in the Wentworth Supplier Code of Conduct.
Greener Office Supplies
Wentworth also has a Green Purchasing Policy. Under this Policy, WIT has committed to purchasing 100% EnergyStar rated products, primarily consisting of computers and other office equipment. Laptops are also required to be Bronze certified (at a minimum) by Electronic Product Environmental Assessment Tool (EPEAT), an environmental rating system that helps identify greener electronic equipment. Currently WIT purchases EPEAT Gold-certified computers.
Wentworth’s cleaning contractor, Unicco, employs a green cleaning program meeting the requirements of LEED for Existing Buildings, and which takes a holistic approach to environmental, health, and safety including training, waste minimization, and use of biodegradable and phosphate-free cleaning solvents.
