WIRE to Attend Intercollegiate Broadcasting System Conference

Maya Bloom, BCOS '17, is up for an IBS Trophy Award

Wentworth’s Internet Radio Experience (WIRE) has experienced growing success since its Intercollegiate Broadcasting System (IBS) Bronze Microphone Award received in 2012. The student-run station has since climbed up the podium, receiving the Gold Microphone this past November. And now, WIRE is taking further steps toward national recognition.

For the first time, WIRE will be attending the IBS National Conference on March 8 in New York City, where the annual Trophy Awards will be presented. Stations around the country apply for the 40 possible Trophy Awards, including 35 specialty awards and five “Best Station” awards. Out of these submissions, the IBS then selects the five top entries per category to invite to the conference.

WIRE made it to the final five in five categories: Best Liner/Sweeper, Best Specialty Music Show, Most Innovative Programming, Best Website, and Best Online Radio Station. Their finalist place in the latter category makes them eligible for the Best Overall Station award, the most sought-after Trophy.

The students whose shows are up for a Trophy are Justice Wright, BSCN ’17, Maya Bloom BCOS ’17, and Erik Pohl, BSCN ’15. Wright is up for the Best ID/Sweeper, Bloom for Most Innovative Programming, and Pohl for Best Specialty Music show.
