Interior Design Program Awarded New England Design Hall of Fame Scholarship
Funding will support students in new study abroad program
Boston, MA—January 23, 2012—Wentworth Institute of Technology’s Department of Interior Design was honored with New England Home magazine’s annual New England Design Hall of Fame Scholarship. This scholarship will provide $5,000 in need-based funding for up to five interior design students participating in the Department of Interior Design’s new study abroad program in Berlin, which will take place in the summer 2012 semester.
Recognizing the importance of public service in the design field, the scholarship was created to support worthy design education programs that combine excellence, educating others, and giving back. Wentworth’s study abroad program addressed these criteria and was selected for the scholarship based on how the program would give back to the community.
The new study abroad program will send 22 interior design and industrial design students to Berlin for ten weeks for summer studio and elective courses. Led by professors Sean Stewart (interior design) and Ralf Schneider (industrial design), students will travel through Germany, northern Italy, and France before eventually settling in Berlin. Once there, they will study under the guidance of Wentworth and Berlin-based faculty.
“It is both an honor to be recognized and a privilege to be able to use these funds to send interior design students abroad,” said Rachel Pike, department chair of interior design. “We are excited to be able to give students this opportunity.”
Scholarship funding is made possible by proceeds from the annual New England Design Hall of Fame induction event.
