Dear member of the Wentworth community:

The Mission, Vision and Values statements are the essential documents upon which Wentworth Institute relies to establish a strategic framework for success.

There is no standard model by which the mission, vision and values statements should be developed. Instead, these statements should reflect the uniqueness of Wentworth and this uniqueness can only be captured and defined by the Institute’s leadership, in collaboration with faculty, staff, students, Trustees and other constituencies that leadership deems necessary to the process.

Wentworth has from time-to-time re-visited its Mission, Vision and Values statements and has made changes and adjustments to align them with its strategic direction.

As Wentworth is currently undergoing yet another evolutionary change with the addition of graduate degrees, new engineering programs and lifelong learning programs, the Mission, Vision and Values statements need to be current.

Recently, the President’s Administrative Council (PAC) held an off-campus facilitated retreat to discuss the Mission, Vision and Values statements and to develop drafts that would serve as the basis for constituency engagement and feedback.

The following definitions guided the development of these drafts.

  • Mission: A concise and meaningful statement that describes our purpose.
  • Vision: A statement that guides actions to achieve the mission.
  • Values: A statement that guides collective and individual actions and behavior both internally and externally.

Below are the drafts of the Mission, Vision and Values statements that we are asking you to review and comment upon. Please describe what you think could be added to, or deleted from the drafts, but also indicate how you would have worded the statement that you are concerned about.

Please keep in mind that we want to keep the final statements short and concise, in a form that it is easy to be disseminated and remembered. Express yourselves and your thoughts freely in this blog. Your suggestions will be taken into consideration as we move towards developing the final versions.

We would like to receive your feedback by September 15th so that we rework the drafts and present to you in an open forum final drafts that will be sent to the Board of Trustees for their review, feedback and final approval.
