Learning at a Distance or Online

Learning at a Distance, either in a hybrid on online fashion, creates unique challenges.  A number of our online students have set up student groups with tutors, generally arriving an hour before their class begins and working in small groups with a tutor.  The Learning Center recommends the following options for distance students:

  • Distance Writing Assistance- Please email your paper to the center.  During busy times of the semester (such as during mid terms and from two weeks prior to the start of final exams through the final exam period) we will return your paper within 3 business days with comments and reviews. For more information, please see out distance writing assistance guidelines.
  • Extended Hours- The Learning Center is open from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM Monday through Thursday in the Fall and Spring Semesters.
  • Weekend Study Groups- As requested, tutors work with small groups of distance students on the weekends.  This typically occurs immediately following the class.
  • Skype/online assistance- The Learning Center is piloting a number of different platforms for distance tutoring in specific subjects (Math A, Math B, Math C).  Please contact the Learning Center if you would like to be a part of this pilot.
