co+build 1.1: September 21, 2013
the mission hill community garden
this fall, co+build is BIG!
Want to connect with fellow students who share an interest in giving back to the community?
Join us on September 21 as we partner with Sociedad Latina’s BIG (Building, Investing, Growing) Project and the Tobin Community Center to design and rebuild the Mission Hill Community Garden.
Through constructing raised beds, compost bins, and an equipment shed, as well as speaking with community members about design plans for the garden entrance, you’ll have the opportunity to become familiar with our community neighbors while putting your hands-on skills to good use! You’ll work alongside youth from the Mission Hill community who belong to our partner organizations. A cookout lunch will be provided.
When: Saturday, September 21
Where: Mission Hill Community Garden: 1481 Tremont Street, Boston, MA
How: Contact Courtney Wright to sign up for the 9am-12pm shift, the 1pm-4pm shift, or stay all day!
co+build is a program at Wentworth that engages students in a unique, hands-on experience that helps them become familiar with the local neighborhoods while working with community members to help address the needs of the community.
Students involved in co+build projects develop a relationship with the community and their environment. Throughout their involvement in co+build, students are introduced to the local community and are able to connect with fellow students who share an interest in giving back to the community through service-based projects.
Benefits of participating:
- Collaborate with students on interdisciplinary projects all over the City of Boston.
- Earn credit towards the Center's certificate program.
- Immersion into the standards and cultures of local neighborhoods.
- Becoming a part of projects that contribute to the stabilization of local communities.
