Alternative Spring Break
For the second year in a row, students spent their Spring Break week in South Florida completing their service at the Florida Keys Wild Bird Center. This year, they also worked with the Paradise Guild at Amelia Earhart State Park and the Everglades Outpost. At Amelia Earhart Park, the students helped with eco-restoration of a mountain bike park by removing invasive species threatening the native species of Miami. They spent most of their time to the Florida Keys Wild Bird Center helping to clean and build habitats for rescued birds, tear down and rebuild the boardwalk used by visitors to the FKWBC, as well as general maintenance and clean up for the organization. The last service day in Florida was spent at the Everglades Outpost, where the students helped clean, prepare, and restore habitats used by rescued wildlife brought to the Outpost.
